Meet Kellie

Houston native Kellie Atkinson cherishes her family. She is married to John Atkinson, son of Dyer and Betty Atkinson. John and Kellie have three boys-Truett (8), Walter (6), and John Bedford “Job” (5). Kellie is the daughter of Billy and Brenda “Peanut” Kilgore.

Kellie graduated Houston High School in 1998. She then attended Mississippi State University where she earned a B.S. in Sociology/Criminal Justice. In order to purse a field in education, Kellie obtained her teaching certification through Delta State University. She is licensed to teach English, History, and Library Media. Kellie taught middle and high school students for more than five years in the public school system. During this time, she also completed Mississippi State University’s Writing/Thinking Institute and served as a teacher consultant. As a consultant, she traveled across the state of Mississippi working with students, teachers, principals, and superintendents to demonstrate and identify effective classroom practices. Later, Kellie earned her certification in Infant and Children’s Swimming and Water Safety Instruction. She now owns and operates North MS Infant Swim.

Kellie is a vital and active member of her community. She attends Houston Presbyterian Church where she serves as a Sunday school teacher. Kellie is a member of the Chickasaw Development Foundation (CDF) and the Chickasaw County Historical Society. After becoming an active citizen on city issues such as "Conference Travel" and "Tourism Tax", Kellie became more involved by serving as Vice-Chairman of the Tourism Committee. In 2017, Kellie was elected as Alderman for Ward 1 of Houston, Mississippi. 

A community asset with family-centered values, Kellie continues to proudly serve the people of Houston through honesty, hard-work, knowledge, transparency, and dedication.
